بيان صادر عن أمين مفتاح كنيسة القيامة وحامل ختم القبر المقدس، السيّد أديب جودة الحسيني

بصفتي أمين مفتاح كنيسة القيامة في القدس الشريف، وحامل ختم القبر المقدس، وباسمي وباسم العائلات المقدسية المسيحية الحريصة على الإرث الروحي والتاريخي للأماكن المقدسة، أعبّر عن بالغ القلق والانشغال إزاء ما نُسب إلى قرار المحكمة المصرية بشأن مصادرة أراضٍ محيطة بدير القديسة كاترينا في جبل سيناء، أحد أقدس مواقع المسيحية في الشرق.

إن دير القديسة كاترينا، الذي يشهد منذ قرون على التلاقي الروحي بين الأديان، ليس مجرد مبنى أثري أو موقع تاريخي، بل هو منارة للإيمان والحوار والسلام. لقد بارك الله هذا الموضع بظهوره للنبي موسى (عليه السلام) في العليقة المتقدة، ويضم هذا الدير العظيم رفات القديسة كاترينا الإسكندرية، ويحمل إرثًا عريقًا من العبادة المسيحية المتواصلة منذ أكثر من 1700 عام.

كما أن هذا الدير كان ولا يزال شاهدًا على التسامح الإسلامي المسيحي، منذ أن منح رسول الإسلام محمد (عليه الصلاة والسلام) وثيقة الحماية لرهبانه عام 623 ميلادي، مرورًا بتجديد هذه الحماية من قبل السلطان سليم الأول عام 1517، وهو ما يجعل من هذا الموقع رمزًا خالدًا للعيش المشترك والسلام الديني.

ومن هذا المنطلق، أناشد فخامة رئيس جمهورية مصر العربية، السيد عبد الفتاح السيسي، التدخل العاجل لضمان الحفاظ على حرمة هذا الدير ومحيطه، والحيلولة دون أي مساس بوضعه القائم، وضمان حرية وصول الحجاج والمصلين إليه دون عوائق.

إن واجبنا كمؤتمنين على المفاتيح والأختام المقدسة، أن نرفع الصوت عاليًا دفاعًا عن حرمة الأماكن التي حملت رسالة السيد المسيح، ولطالما كانت مصر وشعبها الأصيل درعًا للأماكن المقدسة وراعيةً لها. إننا نثق بحكمة فخامة الرئيس السيسي، وبحرصه الدائم على صون التعددية الدينية، ونهيب به التدخل سريعًا لإنهاء هذه الأزمة بما يليق بتاريخ مصر العريق وبدورها المحوري في حماية التراث الإنساني والديني في المنطقة.

Statement by Adeeb Joudeh Al-Husseini, Custodian of the Key to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and Holder of the Seal of the Holy Tomb

Jerusalem – May 30, 2025

As the Custodian of the Key to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem and the Holder of the Seal of the Holy Tomb, and on behalf of the Christian families of Jerusalem who are deeply committed to the spiritual and historical heritage of the Holy Places, I express my deep concern over reports regarding the Egyptian court’s decision to confiscate lands surrounding the Monastery of Saint Catherine in Mount Sinai — one of the holiest Christian sites in the East.

The Monastery of Saint Catherine, which has for centuries stood as a beacon of faith, interreligious dialogue, and peace, is not merely an archaeological or historical site. It is a living sanctuary of worship where the Lord appeared to the Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) in the burning bush, and where the relics of Saint Catherine of Alexandria are enshrined. This sacred place has preserved uninterrupted Christian worship for over 1,700 years.

The monastery also stands as a symbol of Christian-Muslim coexistence, having been granted a Covenant of Protection by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the year 623 AD — a pledge renewed by Sultan Selim I in 1517. This makes the monastery a timeless symbol of mutual respect and spiritual unity.

In light of this, I earnestly appeal to His Excellency, the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to take swift and decisive action to preserve the sanctity of this monastery and its surroundings, to ensure that its longstanding status remains untouched, and to guarantee safe and unrestricted access for pilgrims and worshippers.

As custodians of sacred keys and seals, it is our solemn duty to raise our voice in defense of the sanctity of the places that have carried the message of Jesus Christ. Egypt and its noble people have long stood as guardians and protectors of holy sites. We trust in President El-Sisi’s wisdom and his steadfast commitment to religious pluralism, and we respectfully urge his immediate intervention to resolve this matter in a manner befitting Egypt’s historic role and its enduring legacy as a protector of spiritual and cultural heritage.
