QFBA-NU celebrates graduation of bachelor students from classes of 2020 and 2021

In a ceremony held under the patronage of HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education, the Qatar Finance and Business Academy (QFBA) and Northumbria University (NU), one of the United Kingdom’s leading educational establishments, crowned graduates of the classes of 2020 and 2021 for their achievement in obtaining their degrees in the majors of BA (Hons) in Finance and Investment Management, BA (Hons) in International Banking and Finance, and BA (Hons) in Accounting & Finance.
The ceremony saw the graduation of 143 students representing 18 nationalities, with 70% being Qatari nationals.
Joining the landmark occasion was HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, Deputy Governor of Qatar Central Bank and Chairman of the board of directors at the QFBA, and esteemed board members of the academy.
The QFBA-Northumbria University (QFBA-NU) offers bachelor’s degrees for high school graduates pursuing finance and finance-related majors, as well as professionals already holding diplomas in the business fields, and topping up new or higher academic accreditations in their career development tracks.
Opening the ceremony, QFBA chief executive Dr Khalid Mohamed al-Horr commented on the partnership: “Since the very start, we had a firm belief and trust in that this strong partnership would reverberate with a profound, positive impact on Qatar’s academic landscape, and usher in a golden era for the youth who want to pursue a career in finance.”
“When we joined forces with Northumbria University, we were able to sharpen our focus on academic and talent development, and on the delivery of specialised competency-building degree programmes, through blended learning,” he said. “Professionals enrolled in these courses were offered access to world-class education, and, equally, to the guidance and expertise from the brightest minds in financial fields; a learning experience that enabled them to keep pace with the market’s latest developments and obtain academic degrees and accreditations.”
Dr al-Horr added: “The challenges that were recently thrown our way due to the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic were a motive for us to reexamine the talent development and training needs of the local market, in line with its fast-evolving dynamics.”
“In this context, we are pursuing with our efforts to equip and build up a talent pool that is ready, willing and able to integrate in the job market today, and in the future,” he said.
Students and professionals enrolled in the QFBA-NU accessed a full-fledged learning track in focally finance-related majors.
Professor Jon Reast, pro vice-chancellor (International) of Northumbria University, said: “Graduation is the highlight of a university’s last two academic years, and I congratulate each and every one of these new graduates on their personal achievement and success.”
“Graduating through unprecedented times, their success represents a proof for resilience, and a confirmation of our shared values and ambitions,” he added. “Together with the QFBA, we are providing a learning experience that encourages students to develop the critical ability to question, challenge and innovate – and to become global graduates.”
“I have no doubts that these cohorts, and those that follow, will be instrumental in Qatar’s development as an international financial hub,” Reast continued. “I am also extremely proud of what has been accomplished so far with the QFBA and look forward to deepening our collaboration further in the future.”
Counting almost 35,000 students, Northumbria University is the highest-placed UK university according to *The Times Higher Education’s Young University Rankings 2020.
The university is also ranked 12th in the UK for the number of graduates in highly-skilled employment and second in the UK for graduate start-ups.
Applications for the QFBA-Northumbria University in Qatar are open for its finance degree majors and MSc in Finance with the blessing and approval of Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the QFBA has said in a statement.
Moreover, its strategic partnership with the QFBA will see the expansion of the university’s facilities within its campus in the West Bay area.
